This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
My husband & I have been on a "contract" type cell phone plan for over 10 years and have been used to just renewing it, most of the time without considering other options. This year our plan has expired and we have considered changing companies. We haven't done a lot of research yet, but I came across this cell phone program I wanted to share with my fellow money savers too! :)
I just learned about a company called Straight Talk. You can find out more information by watching this video called "mom knows best" or head into your local Walmart.
They are official sponsors of Fantasy Fishing, you can see all about it on hook, line and sinker.
Here are some of the highlights I've come across:
Their monthly plans include:
•The “All You Need Plan” meets even the needs of heavy phone users with 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and 30 MB of web data.
•Unlimited Monthly service is only $45, and includes calls, text, picture messaging.
•411 calls are included at no extra charge.
•Free from activation, reactivation, or termination fees
Long Distance:
•Straight Talk International Long Distance Service is a flexible prepaid calling service that enables you to make international calls from your home, cell or office phone at low rates.
Want to call a friend overseas?
They offer reconditioned phones with lots of functions for $10 and they carry some smartphones.
Watch this video to see if their phones have everything you need.
I'm actually going to do a bit more research to see if this might fit our family's needs to save money right now. Our average bill is nearly $100/mo with no data plan, so this would be comparable in price, but would include the data plan. Unless we went with the $30 plan, then it would save us about $30-$40 a month. We don't have data plans now and have very "plain" phones, so we wouldn't be losing anything we are used to. Certainly worth looking into.
What would you do with an extra $30 a month? Could that money help you pay off debt, or save for something special? Maybe this is another opportunity to start dreaming again, friends. :)
I've learned that some times we need to think outside of what we are familiar with to find ways to save money, without having to entirely give up what we are used to. This seems to fit that situation.
Another perk is that there are no contracts, so you don't get tied into a plan that may not be the best fit a year from now. Since the plans are straight forward you don't end up with extra charges either. If your contract with your current provider is almost up, this may be something to consider even as a temporary option. I'm liking the sound of this!
Some things to consider:
-Reception, I know in some areas certain carriers have limited service, and I'm not sure how reliable their coverage is.
-As far as I know, they do not carry the iPhone or Droid, which are both really popular phones and their apps are becoming a perk people are looking for.
Be sure to check out Straight Talk if this sounds like a good fit for your family and tell me how it goes! I'm really curious about how people feel about, so leave a comment if you have more any more information/insight to share with us!
